If you’re a frequent SGE reader, you’ve probably seen the buttons on the right side of the homepage. I’ve been following the Hungry Couple and Kelli’s Retro Kitchen Arts for about the past month, check out their food adventures. Today I’m featuring them and sharing some background info on who they are, how they got started with blogging and quizzing them about their favorite recipes!
One of my favorite recipes from Hungry Couple includes An Apple A Day, where Anita shares multiple ideas for using apples like an apple pie martini!
Hungry Couple by Anita
I’ve been cooking since I was a teenager but never thought about writing a cooking blog. Hungry Couple started about 5 years ago more as a place to do restaurant reviews and as something that Brian and I (who don’t have that many interests in common) could do together. Somewhere along the line I started adding my recipes and started to see people take an interest and it grew from there.
The first one is my small fried apple pies. The reason is that I really made this recipe up myself! I was (still am) on a very strict diet and early on I started having these awful, gnaw-at-your-backbone cravings for different things and one of them was my nana’s fried apple pies. Then I realized that if I just made them tiny, it would take care of the craving and I could enjoy it too – my brother could just eat several of them! It is also one of my most popular posts.
The second one is my Nana’s Chocolate Pie. This recipe also brings back great memories of licking the chocolate pudding bowl AND the Dream Whip bowl! Nana let me get by with all kinds of things my parents never would. When I recreated this recipe I was thrilled that I got it right! Well, at least the way I remember it. I’m thinking I want it again……
My third favorite blog post is these restaurant style chicken wings made at home. We love these wings! It took me years to perfect these and they have turned out fantastic! It is the most requested recipe from my family and that makes it very very special!
