Does the perfect water bottle exist? One that doesn’t leak, looks sleek, keeps water cold, is somewhat pretty (as water bottles go), and isn’t too expensive? I think we may have found our holy grail of water bottles.
Why the quest
I’m always drinking tea or water, always. We have a huge Brita filter tank in the refrigerator that gets refilled almost daily, and I go through loose leaf tea at about an ounce a month. For me, I grew up drinking a lot of water without even realizing it. I was an active, thirsty kid. As I got older, I definitely latched on to sodas, fruit juices and alcohol, but those things make my body feel like crap.
Back in December I cut out sodas and fruit juices for good. I enjoy orange juice, but most fruit juices are pumped full of sugar and preservatives and they just don’t taste good to me. I do enjoy a good Odwalla Green Goddess every now and then, though. Inadvertently, cutting out these not-so-awesome options led to drinking more water and tea, and a need for a better water bottle.
Rahul didn’t have a water bottle that he’s chosen. He has acquired ones I’ve gotten for free and none of them were really him (or suitable). It was the time that he buy something that was meant for him.
Rahul and I had different requirements for our needs:
Him – sturdy, dependable, keeps water cold for a long time, holds more than 20 ounces, and looks manly. Aka, not pink.
Me – strainer so I don’t eat loose leaf tea, keeps water hot without being too hot to handle, pretty, translucent and doesn’t leak.
I had a more specific purpose – I have a 32-ounce water bottle that is great for…. water. But I specifically wanted something to brew loose leaf tea as well as enjoy infused waters. I like throwing extra fresh mint and lemons in my water, but I don’t enjoy eating them. Loose leaf tea is so much more affordable and has better flavor than tea bags. I wrote a blog about why you should brew loose leaf tea, and in it I share a tea infuser that works great if you’re infusing tea into a mug of water, but it doesn’t really work for a water bottle.
After endless Amazon reviews and YouTube videos, here’s what we settled on.
Mountain Rose Herbs Tea Infuser reviewed by me:
While Rahul searched for his bottle, I was learning about the Mountain Rose Herbs Tea Infuser travel mug that my yoga teacher sells next to all of the loose leaf teas. He used it himself, so I asked his opinion of it. While it did leak a bit in the beginning, it hasn’t leaked since (possibly because he’s gotten used to how to screw the top on).
I enjoy looking at what’s in my drink. And I like how the loose leaf tea kinda freaks people out. They’re like “what…. is that…. in your water bottle?” And then I get to educate them on the benefits of loose leaf tea. Most of the time they still think I’m a little crazy, but if they know me, they already knew that.
Since using this tea infuser, I haven’t eaten tea once. It filters every piece of it out so I don’t have to worry about accidentally choking on it. The lid stays on tight and I’ve been using it for about two weeks nonstop.
And what it looks like when loose leaf tea is in it. Reminds me of a science project. (Glare from the sun)
And because I feel like it, a pretty picture of tea:
Where can you find loose leaf tea? I share a few of my recent favorites in my loose leaf tea post, but Mountain Rose Herbs also sells several varieties of tea. Can you believe that they really do have pretty flowers in them like that? You’re drinking FLOWERS and HERBS, people.
Eco Vessel Triple Insulated Water Bottle (affiliate link) reviewed by Rahul after one month with the product:
I have absolutely fallin’ in love with my Eco Vessel Triple Insulated water bottle! Wow I sound like the kid from a Christmas Story talking about his BB gun. Not mad at myself for that, as this water bottle is just what I needed to keep my beverages cold when I am on the move.
Over the years we have destroyed a few water bottles in our household, but so far this Eco Vessel is pretty sturdy. Sturdy might be an understatement as I have dropped this bottle from various heights and on various surfaces in my day to day operations. Not a dent on the bottle, but I am not even to the best part yet.
This stainless steel bottle is triple insulated and my water will stay the same temperature for well over 24 hours. Definitely, a plus for me as I am always setting my water down somewhere and that somewhere is never the fridge. Easy screw on caps make for no-hassle drinking as long as one hand is free and the infuser basket makes adding fruit or tea to your water a pleasurable experience, instead of having fruit or tea smacking you in the face when you take a drink.
I have to say this is one of those purchases that has changed my life. I know it’s just a water bottle. Let’s be real no one ever wants to be disappointed with a product they have spent hard earned money on and I’m not disappointed with this purchase at all.
