My favorite popcorn company Just Pop In is unveiling a few new flavors. My lucky self is taste testing them for you just before their release!
Just Pop In has damn good popcorn. Each piece of popcorn is coated in flavor, and unlike the popcorn you get at the grocery store, every piece is large down to the bottom of the bag. Previously I have tasted flavors such as Maple BBQ and Lime Salted Lemon, the spicy challenge test with XXX Twice Baked Potato and, my ultimate favorite, Porkorn, a mix of cheddar, bacon and caramel. Never have I been disappointed.
That brings me to these’s new flavors: Reggae Wine Popcorn for Easley Winery, Irish Mint and 4 Birds Bakery.
Which one did I open first? 4 Birds Bakery (launched March 18).
This popcorn mix is a collaboration with Nicole Anderson of H2O Sushi and 4 Birds Bakery. It includes oats and maple crumbles from her famous shagbark cookies, found on the H2O Sushi dessert menu and other places around town like Bazbeaux Pizza, Goose the Market and Monon Coffee Shop. I have not had these famous cookies, but one bite of this popcorn is enough for me to find one for myself.
The smell of maple syrup emits immediately when you open the bag, giving you mixed signals of breakfast and dessert and popcorn all at once. You can see oats glued to each piece of popcorn, stuck there by sweet maple flavor and a hint of salt.
Next I tried the St. Patrick’s Day flavor – Irish Mint.
Would you guess that this is popcorn? A first glance may have you thinking it is a plate of candy. The beautiful color could screams “come eat me!” Mixing mint, chocolate and a touch of salt in every bite, this flavor is like a Thin Mint cookie version of popcorn. Found only during this time of year, customers quickly snag it up, so you should hurry if you want to try this popcorn before it is gone!
Last but certainly not least, I tried the Reggae Wine popcorn for Easley Winery (official launch party and availability soon).
Okay folks, it may be a little unfair to discuss this popcorn with the other two flavors present. Never in my wildest dreams would I think that popcorn could be boozy.
Easley Winery wanted a Carribbean-themed popcorn to pair with their Reggae Wines. The winning combination was a toasted coconut and pina colada blend with dried pineapple and lime sea salt. Each bite of popcorn packs a punch of Easley Winery’s reggae wines, and the dried pineapple is an unexpected treat that I really enjoyed.
Once again, I am impressed with the quality and taste of Just Pop In’s popcorn. It is great to see how they collaborate with so many local Indianapolis businesses, restaurants and hotels. I’ll be visiting their Guilford Avenue shop to pick up a few bags soon!
