This handy calendar tells us Hoosiers what fruit and vegetables to expect at the farmers’ markets each month and how lengthy the harvest season is.
I found this calendar from Purdue University’s website. Makes sense due to their various kinds of agriculture programs – for instance, Purdue is home to the only Certified Master Food Preserver program. I would love to take it if it weren’t offered for 8 hours on Wednesdays…
Since I typically plan a week’s worth of meals at a time, I like to know what to expect at the farmers market so I can figure out how to incorporate the fresh produce into my meals. I’m still surprised by what’s available because fruit and vegetables can’t be 100% predictable, and with the crazy stretch of no rain, we’ve been tolerating I wouldn’t be surprised if quantities dwindle and varieties are few and far between.
I’m looking forward to finding these in July:
- Brussel sprouts
- Carrots (I’ve seen some already)
