Yeah, I said it. Homemade hamburger buns. Think I’m crazy? Probably. But once you make these, you’ll never want to buy packaged buns from the store again.
You could deem me as crazy for attempting to make these on a weeknight, but John and I agreed to start eating dinner later in the evening to prevent us from snacking at 9 or 10pm which meant I had the time to make these. I started the process at about 4:30 and finished it at 7:00, not too bad considering there are two hours when you let the dough rise, once before you shape them and once after.
While I had no sesame seeds or poppy seeds on hand to really make these POP, I don’t think they were necessary. Light, fluffy and flavorful, these homemade hamburger buns were just… perfect.
My buns stuck together a bit, probably because I didn’t weigh them out to make sure each were of equal size, and, I really didn’t care that much to make them “perfect.” They tasted perfect and looked perfectly homemade, each one just a little different than its neighbor. That’s OK with me.
See? Like “links” of buns.
Now, behold – the burger.
I can’t wait to make these again, maybe when we grill out over the summer and invite some friends over. Then I’ll cut the buns in half and stick them on the grill for a minute to crisp up. Now THAT is an ultimate burger.
I used this recipe from Parsley, Sage & Sweet, and I didn’t change a thing, so please head over there for the recipe and enjoy!
