This suggestion came from my boyfriend John. He spotted a menu, noticed that they weren’t that far away, and thought we should head over for lunch sometime. So we did. And we plan on coming back several times.
Located off of 71st and Binford, near GT South’s BBQ, Movable Feast sits in the parking lot as if a shoebox dropped out of the sky and landed here. From the outside you can tell that it’s not very big, and we wondered whether we would be eating inside or taking our food to-go. After walking in you can see that it seats about 10-15 comfortably.
Movable Feast is a deli and catering joint offering sandwiches, soups and salads with love. There’s a whiteboard on the wall, listing out the daily special – Turkey with Sun Dried Tomato Pesto was up. John, being the sweet boyfriend he is, asks if they put nuts in their pesto. He knows that I can’t eat pine nuts/cashews/pistachios, which are often found in pesto. His question led to a short story from the folks behind the counter, who stated that they don’t use any of those nuts because they too had a nut allergy. Winner winner! That was a big deal for me – so often I have to turn down dishes because you can’t really take the nuts out of the prepared pesto. Hence, I got the sandwich.
What stunned me more than anything was the price. Movable Feast is totally affordable, with sandwiches ranging from $4.00-$7.00 and most other things are similar in price. The two of us ate lunch for less than $15.
John ordered the New York Turkey Reuben, which has coleslaw on the sandwich and chips on the side.
This was my Turkey with Sun Dried Tomato Pesto
One thing I must note is the friendliness of the staff and the amount of regulars that Movable Feast has. As John and I ate, several people walked in and were addressed by name. Everything just felt… comfortable, and I like that.
Take a bite of Movable Feast home with their pre-packaged marinades and soups if you like, but like I said, nothing beats walking into the deli and sitting down to take a bite of your own.
