Here’s a little story about bacon.
Everybody knows I love bacon. I can make a blanket statement like that because I’m pretty sure it’s true.
Bacon is awesome for so many reasons, and I’m sure that if you like bacon, I really don’t have to explain all of the details here. If you don’t like bacon, you’re in the wrong place – head to idontknowsomethingnotaboutbacon.com because I’m sure you’ll find what you’re looking for there.
Good, you’re still here.
So if you like bacon, you may have said to yourself “Man, I need a new way to integrate bacon into my diet.”
That’s when I purchased a copy of The Bacon Cookbook, with over 150 recipes for using bacon in every which way. Covering every course from appetizer to desserts and breads, this cookbook won’t leave you bored. Try the Duck, Bacon and Pinto Bean Soup or the German Bacon Cookies, because both of those sound awesome.
I’ll never forget the time when I met Smoking Goose Meatery at the Broad Ripple Farmers Market. They had bacon for about $7/lb. I bought some, because I knew it would be good. But I didn’t know it would be the best bacon I’ve ever tasted. Thick, salty but full of flavor, this bacon has sass. To this day it still holds this title, and very rarely do I buy inferior bacon. Once you’ve purchased quality, local bacon, you will always taste a difference with what you get from the supermarket.
You should also consider baking your bacon. Leave behind the cast iron skillets, the popping grease that goes everywhere, and the constant monitoring for a baking sheet and an oven. Never tried it? Here’s a quick recipe:
Baked, not fried, bacon recipe
Preheat oven to 425. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper. Lay bacon on the sheet, and bake for 20-25 minutes or until browned. The bacon stays flat, is super crispy and you got to hang out on the couch and watch The Cosby Show instead of hanging out at the stove!
